       How to maximize the leadership
                        of your group

Massimo Brizzi has been an Ottantaventi partner since 1992.

He works in Italy for companies of National and International importance and participates in International training
projects.

In recent years companies have highlighted the need to reinforce and maximize the leaderhip and teambuilding capabilities of their managers as a priority.

Here are six tips to improve your group's results:

Listen silently concentrating only on what you are hearing: during meetings you should avoid prejudices, understand the mood and expectations of your team members, give their suggestions and criticisms the right amount of consideration in order to evaluate them properly and to use them effectively.

To define motivating goals which should be:

  • communicated within a strategic vision
  • shared and achievable
  • ambitious
  • measurable

Assess the maturity and the awareness of the team members with respect to concepts such as "I'm a member of the group", "I know and I share the objectives and the values of the group", " Respecting these values I cooperate in my work to achieve the group's objectives", adopting, where necessary, the right method to adjust member's attitudes.

Define an effective system of acknowledgement to satisfy the emotional and rational needs of your team members. To do this you should: give acknowledgement also when the team members achieve middle goals; give it following coehrent and recognizable criteria, avoiding partiality which causes jealousy, antagonism and loss of your credibility.

Build an effective delegation system, defining clear and firm objectives and how to achieve and verify them.

To check and improve our behaviour constantly asking yourself questions such as:

  • "Do I listen carefully?"
  • "Do I set ambitious, achievable and motivating objectives?"
  • "Do I make it clear that the objectives are part of a motivating strategy?"
  • "Do I gain the proper commitment and effort from my team members?"
  • "Do I delegate following a shared method which developes my team members capabilities and maximizes their results?"
