The influence of leadership on team
habits and behaviour
Massimo
Brizzi has been an Ottantaventi partner since 1992.
He works in Italy for companies of National and International importance
and participates in International training
projects.
High levels of team “maturity” allow for substantial delegation by the leader and sometimes, make possible
self-management mechanisms within the team.
This is an interesting objective that calls for considerable leadership skills and substantial team motivation to achieve six fundamental habits:
-
proactive listening
-
considering others’ psychological needs
-
thinking and doing in order to achieve objectives
-
identifying priorities
-
reciprocal interrelations, an asset that optimises team results
-
creative attitude in dealing particular problems.
The essential aim of effective leadership is to facilitate these habits creating a positive mental attitude within the team.
The leader will obtain:
-
A team with high self esteem, a strong sense of membership and clear commitment to achieving team targets.
-
Team focus on individual and team targets. Each member, according to interrelations, will know exactly where to direct their efforts in relation to priorities.
-
Balance of the team roles and behaviour (leading, passive, neutral) and conflicts and stress will be avoided.
-
Levels of delegation and responsibility will be targeted to each individual’s skills and experience, which as a consequence motivates and stimulates the team.
-
A well defined and shared set of instructions, suggestions and patterns for problem solving.
-
Team respect and knowledge of unwritten management rules.
-
Good levels of interaction and co-operation within the group.
